Lunch & Learn: Rabbi Mirelman on Prophesy in Ancient Israel
During kiddush on Saturday, July 20 and 27, Rabbi Emeritus Victor Mirelman will lead discussions on prophesy, a cornerstone of Ancient Israel. The topic will focus mainly on the prophets Amos and Jeremiah. Some issues that will be discussed include:
– What manner of person is a prophet?
– What are the central characteristics of prophecy?
– What caused the rabbis to declare an end to prophecy?
Abraham Joshua Heschel’s landmark book, The Prophets, is a classic work on the subject of ancient prophecy and will be the basis for parts of Rabbi Mirelman’s presentations.
This Lunch and Learn is in person only; reservations are not necessary. All are welcome.
