Service and Shiva for Marcelle Farhi

IN MEMORIAM

Longtime Har Zion member Marcelle Farhi passed in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 9, 2024, surrounded by her family and those that cared for her.

Marcelle’s strength and force was something to behold. She meant the world to her family, friends, and community, always trying to find ways to better herself and her children. Being exiled at 26 from her homeland, she and her new husband made their way to Chicago after many stops. She learned to read Hebrew (among her 4 other languages) in her 50’s and was the first woman to ever lead the Shacharit service at Temple Har Zion. Of course her cooking will be remembered by all those who ever had the joy to partake.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Vicki, her husband, Maurice, her son Michael, and her granddaughter, Golda. Marcelle is survived by her brother Mayer, sister Lillian, daughters Manuela (Shmuel), Moselle (Michael), and grandchildren Benjamin, Reese, John, Binah, and Sarah.

Services:

• Funeral service will be Thursday, January 11, 2024, 12 noon, at Temple Har Zion, 1040 N Harlem Ave, River Forest, IL.
  The service will be in person and on Zoom. Meeting ID 899 2674 0823 with the Har Zion password.

• Graveside service will follow the funeral, 1:30 PM at Waldheim Cemetery, 1400 Des Plaines Avenue Forest Park, IL.

Shiva will be held:

• Thursday, 1/11, 6 – 9 pm, at Temple Har Zion (ma’ariv at 6:30 pm)
• Saturday-Wednesday evenings, 1/13-17, 6 – 8 pm (ma’ariv at 6:30 pm), at Moselle’s home, 147 North Euclid in Oak Park.
